Fan Li-qing said China has given a green light to the Shanghai and Beijing representative offices of the Taiwan Trade Center, while Taiwan has also approved the Taipei Office of the China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Machinery and Electronic Products (CCCME) to set up shop.
"This will be a new development in cross-Taiwan Strait economic relations," Fan said.
She also expressed hope that the two sides will discuss such issues as cultural exchanges and cooperation so as to reach a consensus to push for the establishment of cultural offices on each side of the strait.
Fan was responding to a call by Taiwan's Culture Minister Lung Ying-tai, who recently said she hopes to set up Taiwan cultural offices all over China.
Meanwhile, Fan said that a cross-strait cultural and creative industry cooperation forum will be held Dec. 18-20 in Hangzhou, in China' Zhejiang Province, with the theme of "jointly developing the cultural and creative industry across the Taiwan Strait."
