Shi, who established Dragonfly Gallery in Taiwan in 1996, has already set up flagship and concept stores in Taipei. In July 2010, he opened the 550-square-meter Dragonfly Design Center and Concept Store at the Beijing Global Trade Center. The new center to be opened in Beijing in September will occupy a much larger space of 1,500 square meters at the sprawling Beijing No. 1 Arts Zone.
China now accounts for 40% of the world's bamboo production but Shi says the country should be more than just the world's top bamboo exporter. He said his new center will focus on the development and wider applications of bamboo, a material whose qualities have carried deep resonance for Chinese artistic culture throughout the ages in painting and poetry.
