The work was an eight-month effort from a professor-student duo at the FEU (Far East University). Yu-gang Chen, director of FEU's Innovation and Creativity Center, and Wu Yi-hsiang, a graduate student of FEU's Department of Innovation and Entrepreneurship contributed to one of four gold medals took home by the university at the international event.
Patent rights for the invention had already attracted interested buyers from U.S., China, and Taiwan.
The design allowed a bicycle to extend through telescopic structures into a tandem bike with additional two pedals and a seat.
