Taiwan’s Orient Europharma to Transfer Pharmaceutical Technology to Morocco

This technology-transfer will be the first to an overseas company by Orient Europharma. According to statistics of the World Health Organization, the average medical expense of every Moroccan in 2008 was US$2,700, and it has been increasing annually. Morocco is one of the countries in Africa that spend more on healthcare. 13% of the 30 million-plus population has diabetes which presents very high demand for diabetes-treating drugs.

In addition, a report by RNCOS E-Services Pvt. Ltd. shows that due to the wide spread of diseases and large population, the compound annual growth rate of the Middle Eastern and North African medical and pharmaceutical markets from 2010 to 2012 will reach 11%, higher than any other region of the world. Another market research firm Espicom Business Intelligence’s investigation also points out that pharmaceutical sales in the Middle East and North Africa will exceed US$35.9 billion by 2015.
