With the effect of the Cross-Strait Economic Cooperation Framework Agreement (ECFA), the order placements for Taiwan’s machinery for the first quarter of 2011 are now full. 114 machinery items are on ECFA’s “Early Harvest” first-phase list, which include plastic and rubber machine, machine tools, textile machine, mold & die, and mechanical components, taking up one seventh of Taiwan’s entire stock of machinery products.
Officials of the Industrial Development Bureau of Taiwan’s Ministry of Economic Affairs have pointed out that other than the five-year adjustment period for Taiwan-made advanced machinery such as controllers, other non-defense industry related machinery products will all be included in the cross-Strait goods trade negotiations to take place in the near future to enjoy as early as possible ECFA’s benefit of lowering the tariff to zero in three phases within two years.
