Taiwan received a score of 5.28 on a scale of 1-7 in the WEF's latest competitiveness report, which evaluated the competitive edge of 144 economies around the world.
The top three ranking countries were Switzerland, Singapore and Finland, with scores of 5.72, 5.67 and 5.55, respectively.
As in previous years, the Asia-Pacific region and Pacific was among the fastest-growing and most competitive regions worldwide, with six economies from the region making it into the index's top 20.
Among Asia-Pacific economies, Taiwan ranked fourth, trailing only Singapore (2nd overall), Hong Kong (9th) and Japan (10th).
