TAITRA Hosts the Taiwan Halal Pavilion at MIHAS 2015

Source: Taiwantrade | Updated: 16 February 2015

The Bureau of Foreign Trade of the MOEA and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) are leading 23 quality Taiwanese halal certified suppliers/   manufacturers to exhibit in the 12th Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS 2015), the world’s largest halal food and beverage trade fair, from April 1st to 4th, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.   This is the very first time that TAITRA attends the MIHAS, as well as the very first time to host a 100% halal pavilion anywhere in the world. This attendance indicates a landmark effort by the Taiwanese government to enter into the global halal market.

Taiwan is an export-oriented, vigorous industrial economy. Over the last several decades, Taiwan has always been known for its distinctive speed and flexibility to supply all kinds of products with reassuring and consistent quality to meet the world’s most tedious expectations. Given this fantastic opportunity, TAITRA and the Taiwan Pavilion exhibitors are open for suggestions and are looking forward in meeting with potential partners and professional agents, importers, wholesalers, and retail chains from all over the world at MIHAS 2015.

By December 31st 2014, there were around 400 halal certified suppliers in Taiwan, including processed meat & food, pharmaceutical products, and cosmetic items. Most are already exporters, which lays a strong foundation for Taiwan to be considered a surging provider in the global halal market. It is estimated that another 100 new suppliers will have their products certified within 2015. Interested overseas buyers may visit the Website “Halal Taiwan” at http://halal.taiwantrade.com.tw/ to view over 2,000 halal certified quality food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals in Taiwan.

While Taiwan’s bilateral trade with Muslims countries like Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Oman, Turkey, Indonesia all increased in the past years, a satisfactory and stable growth with Malaysia is observed as well. Taiwan imported a total value of US$8,247 million from Malaysia from January to November in 2014, a 9.2% of growth compared to the same period in 2013, making Malaysia the 7th biggest import market for Taiwan.  On the other hand, Taiwan exported a total value of US$7,917 million to Malaysia in the same period, a 7.7% increase compared to the same period in 2013, maintaining Malaysia the 9th biggest export market for Taiwan now.  Since Malaysia has been the most aggressive force, through JAKIM, to drive the halal industry worldwide, the two countries’ production chains may complement one another. Enhanced industrial cooperation will benefit the industry, creating a win-win scenario all around.
