Smartphones to Be Less than US$75 in 3 Years

The growth potential of smartphones in the future will come from the ones for beginner users, which will also be an important support for the production growth of semiconductors in the future. Gartner has estimated that in 2014 smarphones will consume 10% of the semiconductor production and suggested that semiconductor and related terminal manufacturers should now actively position themselves in the beginner smartphone sector.

The smartphone related chips occupied 18% of the shipment and 36% of the revenue of the global semiconductor market in 2010.Taiwanese manufacturers are a significant part of it. Taiwan’s MediaTek Inc., for example, was the world’s fourth largest supplier of mobile phone chips in 2010, taking 10.9% of the market share. Meanwhile, HTC Corporation was the fourth largest smartphone maker in the world with a market share of 8% in the first half of 2010, which is also a major Android phone maker.
