Current blood pressure lowering drugs mainly take effect on the pancreas, liver and muscle fat tissue. However, older patients with aged organs often result in little to no drug effects, leading to scenarios where conditions become uncontrollable. The team tested their new drug, DPP-4, on 97 patients whose average age was 73 years old and found it was effective in controlling blood sugar levels without significant signs of side effects such as hypoglycemia or weight gain. To elderly diabetes patients, the drug was no doubt a big step forward.
