Global demand for Taiwan’s high performing and low priced machinery, machine tools, and parts had grown tremendously this year. The phenomenon began earlier this year, around the time when Taiwan’s signing of the trade agreement with China came into effect. With November and December expected to generate US$17bn to US$18bn worth of exports, the industry’s annual export figure is very likely to go over the US$20bn mark. Taking into account Taiwan’s local market and last minute orders from factories in Thailand, the industry’s total sales this year may reach as high as US$30bn.
