NCTU pointed out that conventional motion tracking technologies did not allow for seamless tracking. The university’s breakthrough has overcome the problem of camera halting due to computation time required to predict movement. Now, the university has enabled the camera to keep a constant eye on moving targets.
It is important to note that the use of the camera tracking technology has to be kept within ethical grounds. Illicit uses of constant camera tracking may result in circumstances portrayed in the movie “Enemy of the State” where privacy is jeopardized. However, the technology can also serve as an important life-saving tool in scenarios such as caring for the elderly.
