Organized by Taiwan Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality, and co-organized by the Healthcare Industry Development Association Across the Strait (HIDAS) and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the “Guangzhou Economic Trade Development Forum and the orientation for the 5th Guangzhou-Taiwan Medical Care Forum” was held at Sherwood Hotel, Taipei on 13th August, 2015. It attracted 150 people in total from Taiwanese medical care, health, biotechnology, and finance related areas to participate in the event.
During the event, the director from the Taiwan Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality, Ms. Lee, Xiao-Mien, delivered a speech. He mentioned that currently, the new economic and trading development plan is being undertaken in Guangzhou, establishing the city as an international shipping, logistics, trade and financial services center. The goal is to speed up the process, making Guangzhou the fourth national central city of China after Beijing, Shanghai and Tianjin. The health, medical care and biotechnology industries are the newest industries and businesses of Guangzhou, which were also vigorously promoted as the key focus of developing areas for cooperation at the event. Director Lee said, “The ‘5th Guangzhou-Taiwan Medical Care Forum’ will be held in October 13th in Guangzhou. We welcome the related company representatives to join this great event.” The president of HIDAS, Mr. Liao, Guo-Dong mentioned that he hopes under the new circumstances, with the bilateral peace getting more solid, the economic and trade exchange and cooperation between Taiwan and Guangzhou will achieve a win-win situation, especially for cooperation and business opportunities in the health and medical care fields.
The representatives from the Guangzhou Municipal Commission of Commerce, the Guangzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone, the Regulatory Commission of Tien Ho Central Business District, the Guangzhou International Bio Island Investment & Development Co. Ltd, and the Guangzhou Industrial Investment Fund Management Co., Ltd. all individually briefed and interacted with the professionals in attendance from Taiwan’s medical care, health, and biotechnology industries.
As is known, these years the Taiwan Affairs Office of the People’s Government of Guangzhou Municipality has actively promoted economic and trade exchange and cooperation between Taiwan and Guangzhou, supported by Guangzhou’s economic and social development. Several forums have been held one after the other in Taiwan, such as the Guangzhou Economic and Trade Forum, the Guangzhou Technology Innovation Development Forum, the Guangzhou and Taiwan Financial Forum, and the Health and Medical Care Forum, including project promotions in finance, technology, health and medical care industry development, which all resulted in enthusiastic responses. Currently, in the biotechnology industry area, there are two companies, Guangzhou Kai Fu Biotech, and Guangzhou Ning Chang Biotech, based in Guangzhou International Bio Island, along with the Guangzhou-Taiwan Biotech Industry Cooperation Base being listed there as well.
