The SideLight is a transparent, light-guiding panel and film that can concentrate the sun’s rays and then direct them to solar cells to generate even more electricity. It also allows for reductions in the number of solar cells used, which in turn can lower the costs of tiling building surfaces full of photovoltaic panels.
The technology can be used on windows, building materials, roof tops, and solar power plants. It can even be applied to greenhouses, windows of public transportation terminals, bus stops, and battery charging stations.
ITRI has already begun working with local industries to commercialization and mass produce the technology.
