As the manufacturing partner of Nike and Uniqlo, Taiwan-based Far Eastern New Century Corp. (FENC) supplies the two industry giants with water-free dyed fabrics.
Using a sustainable technology referred to as ColorDry by Nike, the high-tech facility of FENC can manufacture dyed fabric with unprecedented color saturation, intensity, and consistency without using any water.
By taking water and chemicals out of the equation, the environmental benefits are huge.
The ColorDry technology can reduce energy consumption by around 60% compared to conventional dyeing methods as it does not require heating up large volumes of water and processing the related chemicals, according to FENC.
FENC indicated that the ColorDry process is not only more eco-friendly, it is also more efficient compared to past methods. The water-free process can reduce dyeing time by 40% and the required factory footprint by a quarter while using up almost 100 percent of the dye material.
FENC has estimated that by 2018 all of the FIFA World Cup team jerseys would be made from water-free dyed fabrics.
