Taiwan’s ICT sector has begun to grow beyond its OEM roots, with products from a variety of local firms seeing tremendous success in the global market. The most prominent example is smartphone maker HTC Corporation, which was named one of the market research firm Interbrand's Top 2011 Global Brands. PC maker ASUSTeK, meanwhile, has secured a section of the burgeoning tablet PC market with the launch of its Eee Pad Transformer, a tablet PC that can be converted into a laptop. Meanwhile, Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (TSMC) is already offering a global-leading 28nm semiconductor process node technology. Moreover, Taiwan's photovoltaic (PV) cell industry currently stands at second in the world, trailing China. Major Taiwanese solar cell companies include Motech Industrial Inc., Gintech Energy Corp., and E-Ton Solar Tech.
